Help and support for carers
Read the pages above for advice and guidance on the help and support available to carers.
You can also search the directory for organisations that provide help and support to carers.
If you provide regular and substantial care for someone, you can have a carers assessment to discuss the help you need. This can happen even if the person you care for refuses help. You can also contribute to the discussion about the needs of the person you look after. Your views will be recorded within the service user's needs assessment.
A carer's assessment is your opportunity to talk about your own needs and things that could make caring easier for you. Carers assessments are undertaken by Hackney Council but can look at the support available from a range of organisations. The assessment will be a face-to-face discussion between you and the assessor. The assessment can be carried out in private away from the person being cared for if required.
