The Council also offers a range of grants to help with the cost of carrying out essential repairs and improvements in private homes in Hackney.

Disabled facilities grants (DFGs) are available from the Council to help with the cost of work required to adapt private homes for occupation by a person with a disability.

By making grants available, we hope to ensure a better quality of life for disabled people in Hackney and to help more people to remain in their own homes as part of the community.

Who can apply?

  • Owner occupiers
  • Private tenants (who must have their landlord's permission to carry out the work)

Renovation grants for owner occupiers and private tenants

The Council offers a range of grants to help with the cost of carrying out essential repairs and improvements in private homes in Hackney. These grants are administered by private sector housing.

Grants are available mainly to owner occupiers but disabled facilities grants (DFGs) are also offered to eligible tenants:

  • Grants for owner occupiers and private tenants - disabled facilities grant (DFG)
  • Grants for owner occupiers only
    • Hospital discharge grant (HDG)
    • External works grant (EWG)
    • General repairs grant (GRG)
  • Warmth and security grant (WSG)
  • Equity release loans (ERL)
